Essay Writing
This full-year class will teach six different essays: personal, narrative, definition, expository, argumentative, and a formal critique. Students will submit assignments via our Google Classroom. Detailed feedback is provided on each assignment so that students have the opportunity to grow and edit their work.
Prior IEW experience is not necessary but will be useful.
This is an asynchronous class, so there is no live lecture. Students complete assignments on their own schedule.

This course will teach the fundamentals of essay writing, including paragraph development, introductions, conclusions, and writing with style. There will be two research papers with Works Cited pages (MLA).
High school students will write a variety of essays during the year: personal, narrative, definition, expository, argumentative, and a formal critique. Each essay type will offer multiple prompts for students to choose from. There will be options to expand a few of the prompts into super-essays if you wish. Each essay is submitted in three stages, thus providing 18 writing assignments.
As an Accomplished IEW Instructor, I teach essay writing using IEW’s Structure and Style® methodology. Students new to IEW will gain experience using IEW methods in their writing. Experienced IEW students will be able to employ their skills at a deeper level, focusing on Units 7 and 8.
